Lake Tekapo and the Night Sky Reserve

Haere mai again!

Tuesday was the day my travels were not longer southbond but northbond back up again. Lake Tekapo is an about 2 to 3 hour drive north-east from Queenstown and located on the way to Christchurch.

Famous for the dark night sky reserve, I knew that had to be what I do! I’ve always enjoyed the  astrophysical days&nights at school, organized by the physical insitute of Frankfurt <3 And I didn’t see the milky way here yet, not to mention knowing the constellations of the southern hemisphere. If you believe it or not, Orion is doing at headstand from northern hemisphere’s perspective!!
Sadly we didn’t got to see the observatory and only had a few short looks through the telescopes, but it was interesting to listen. Also, how could I not mention the laserpointers the stargazing crew had, that was soo cool! They could point far into the night sky O.o Most people from the Kiwi bus didn’t want to do it, there was a tour for the same price that just looked into the sky and had free access to the hot pools aferwards, and because it was already booked out they couldn’t go but also didn’t want to join our tour. It was only four of us…

That night I must have catched the cold from the man in our room, he used to sneeze a lot the day before and when I got into the bus I realized I got a bad headache and my nose was running all morning aswell as I sneezed a lot and felt horrible.Lovely start into the day =.=

Lake Pukaki is probably the bluest lake you'll ever see!
View of Mt Cook over Lake Pukaki
Epic sunset light on Lake Tekapo

 Moon...
... and stars

 The milky way!!

Sunrise at Lake Tekapo-unedited goodness :)
I'm still learning how to get the best results with LR Panorama :)

Wohoo! Lake Tekapo showed us all! Sun, moon, stars, milky way and water, earth and mountains! How awesome's that?!

Are you ready for Christchurch yet?!
