Franz Josef


 Franz Josef is the famous glacier on the west coast. Due to the weather it wasn't very cold at ground level, but it was very cloudy and we had 2min of heavy rain,

In Franz-Josef I stayed for the recommended two nights. I talked a lot with my roommates and met some friends I keep meeting again and again. We had dinner together and spend a total of about 3 hours just talking and eating xD

On Thursday morning I took the shuttle to the Franz Josef walking treks with a lady from my room as her Heli-Hike tour on top of the glacier has been cancelled. The driver recommended us not taking the 5 hour trek we wanted to walk because it was too dangerous in terms of weather, and how silly would it be ignoring an advice from a local?! We did the two 1,5 hour each walks instead, saw the glacier, some Keas (unique to New Zealand’s South Island!!) and a glacier lake.

The weather was ok, it didn’t rain a lot and we had the typical for New Zealand 2minutes of very heavy rainfall just once. After we came back in the early afternoon, it started heavy raining for the rest of the day!

Whale hello there :) Kaikoura is the last scenic spot on the Kiwi Experience tour, afterwards the way goes up to Auckland again.  As the incident in Christchurch happened quite late, my time in Kaikoura was very carefree. After the rush of checking in, I went to the whale watching tour. As I was still petty sick that day and I’m not a good swimmer anyway, I didn’t want to do the dolphin encounter/swimming tour. At the end of the whale watching tour I was extremely exhausted from just watching that I probably would have rather drowned than swimmed in the dolphin encounter. Despite from getting very, very motionsick on the boat and this (not normal for me) was about the second time ever I got motionsick on a boat, it was awesome! We not only saw two sperm whales what the tour is all about, but also a group of Hector’s dolphins (literally one of the cutest animal species ever!!) and various species of birds and a few fur seals doing weird stuff. NaMoPaiMo 2020

Namo...what? You've probably never heard of this.  NaMoPaiMo stands for National Model Painting Month, and takes place during the month of February. You basically dedicate this month to paint one model horse and achieve a goal you always wanted but never reached. While some people just sign up because they might win a prize and choose a model that doesn't challenge them, most pick a challenge. Some use this as an opportunity to finally try painting their own models, others to learn new painting technics or new paint mediums or a new scale that they haven't painted yet. One may note that this isn't a contest or a competition, everyone who finishes their model in February is basically a winner. There a prizes for a few people that outdid themselves with their pieces. Southwestern German Championships

A friend of mine qualified for southwestern championships during the championships in Hessen. Maintal is relatively close by, so we decided to accompany and support her. The event started during mid-day, they possibly might not have had enough participants to start in the morning.  As much as I wished to be able to warm up with her, after my accident on October 30 I am on complete rest. I stumbled on a staircase and pulled both inner and outer ligaments on one foot pretty badly. Hope I'll recover soon. The day continued further and further, but my friend hasn't had a single fight yet and they had fights of every weight category but hers.  Eventually, her weight class started in the late afternoon. This was her second competition in not less than 10 years and she'd just had half a year off of training.
